Comunidad de bambú is my thesis project in architecture school. This project is envisioned as a pilot senior high school prototype and community cooperative project centered around promoting, utilizing & building with bamboo. Bamboo has massive untapped potential in our countryside. The humble grass is utilized in a broad number of ways here, as the main construction material, as a source of livelihood, as a source of community development and also as a formative sphere of influence.

The school component will have agro-industrial senior high electives on bamboo cultivation & utilization. The community center that runs parallel will provide low-income groups with a vocation and training too. Cooperatives can be formed to process bamboo and create traditional and modern bamboo products. Research and development can also be done on the various bamboo pavilions and workshops in the center. All of the structures built with reinforced bamboo poles and other bamboo products will serve as structural prototypes for future civic building with bamboo.

All in all, this project aims to foster new inroads in the countryside with bamboo as the centerfold where various stakeholders in education, agriculture, & industry can come together.
