The requirement was simple: the client, a baker, wanted a physical storefront to complete her budding online bakeshop. The operations and production were already in place, but a storefront would really provide a boost to the business, give her a proper branding and a space to display the cakes and pastries. One problem we encountered early on with the tiny 7 square meter space was that of the limited shopfront because of an existing column in the center of the wall, hence we only had a small opening to work with. We maximized that with a tall bifold window and scaled the frontage to keep everything in proportion. For the theme, the client wanted a light & natural feel to the shop. We went with light colored treated pine wood, clay bricks and pastel colors to complete the look.

Location-wise, the site presented another challenge: it was located on a narrow side street in a quiet neighborhood so the design had to be eye-catching yet not sorely commercial that it sticks out too much. There was also potential for curbside dine-in aside from the programmed curbside pick-up, hence a table the length of the shopfront was installed, alongside stackable stools and a retractable awning.
